Join the industry they said. If you go to college you’ll practically be guaranteed a job, they said. It’s been a year since I’ve graduated and I still don’t have one solid job lead. I’ve applied, I’ve sent cold call emails, I’ve phone called, and nothing. Mostly radio silence. Even places that seemed interested, that hosted an interview, are ghosting me after the first 15 minute interview. Are they hiring or just getting a kick out of leading me on and then just not responding for weeks after?

    Times are tough out there for sure. I wouldn’t be too worried that it’s taking this much time though. It took me a year to get in when times were good. It’s part of the process. Try and find designers you like and get them to critique your book. Get feedback. Make updates. Then reach back out. It is a bad time right now though. Sorry it’s been frustrating.

I had joined DGE Abu Dhabi as a Product Designer and left my previous local job because I was required to fully focus on this project. Management heavily micromanages the drafting and design process. Rather than providing standard PDF markups, leadership goes directly into live Revit models to leave inefficient, color-coded notes and make their own changes. They often spend more time creating complex notes in the model than it would take staff to simply fix the issue. There is also a frustrating tendency to heavily critique how you accomplish a task in the software, even when the final PDF output is perfectly correct."

How much are we charging for full brand guidelines these days? I haven’t done one for freelance in about 7 years so I have no idea what to charge. Icon, wordmark + 5 department variations, all the standard brand book stuff (type, color, usage) and exporting all the file types for the main logo and all departments. Looking for a jumping off point here as I know there’s nuance. Not a mom and pop company. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

For those in the game industry, if most of your professional work is under NDA or private and you're just starting to build a public portfolio, do you think you'd still have a shot at a studio like Nintendo? And what would be the best way to break in when you're in that situation? any advice

A client was referred to me for some product graphic work due to their internal design teams lack of creative output. So this situation started off from to just 1 flatlay project… To me now having 6 of their major client contracts. The issue now - the internal design team is bitter that the major contracts are being outsourced. (I have an inside source) Now the accounting team has been “taking their time” to pay invoices, all while I’m in the middle of the projects.
