Would you quit your 160k + traveling Sunday - Thursday job for another one that pays 130k but minimal travel? Traveling so much has been very hard on me / my family.

Do you find that your team members in India take more sick days than US? On my team in the US, we work from home if we get a cold but are generally still able to work. Being too sick to work happens to each of our US team maybe 1-3 times a year. My team in India takes 1-2 sick days per month. Are they actually too sick to work and that level of illness is more common? Or is there a cultural difference that you don't work if not feeling well?
Gentlemen it’s about that time for me so I need your HELP. How much are you spending on your girls ring? Ladies, how much do you expect him to spend? Also, I see a huge Trend in lab grown rings. Me personally I am not convinced and want to get her a regular diamond. What’s your take and why? Curious from both sides.
Would you take a pay cut from $205K base to $180K base to go fully remote + can live wherever (from 2 days in office in NYC).
People can talk smack about the consulting industry all they want, but it let me hit my fire number in my 30s. #Blessed
Question for the ladies out there. As a male, when I run into female coworkers outside of work do you prefer an awkwardly formal handshake, an awkward side hug (though I wouldn’t side hug you in the office) or to awkwardly do nothing and start talking with no physical gesture?
If I had kids and there was no end in sight to the constant travel, yes I’d choose do that
I would evaluate if the lesser paying job can help with your career “story” or if it’s just a step down in seniority + pay. I’m always in support of a pay cut for WLB but don’t let that pay cut make it look like you aren’t being intentional and growing.
Would be same title/seniority but different segment (still advisory but less strategy/implementation vs more vertical on one segment of the M&A processes)
I recently made such a choice. I’m glad I did. But I went from low 300s to high 200s .. slightly different equation but the point is yes, if I was in your situation I wouldn’t think twice. Not even for the family .. for my own sanity and health
This depends on a couple of factors for you 1. How’s your financial situation? Can you make due with the pay cut? 30k+ for some is difficult. 2. How’s the forward progress in the minimal travel job? 3. Do you value family time above all else? Will it really strain relationship with your SO if you continue the travel job.
I’m planning to choose a 140k remote job with 9-5 over my current 170k remote but terrible hours (close to 11-12 hrs a day and meaningless work) and I don’t even have kids yet. Gotta do what will allow you to have a life.
Thanks everyone for pitching in.. very good inputs that i will use to get some clarity with myself
30k isn't worth being away from home 4-5 days a week. Silly question.
Nothing is guaranteeing you will not travel in a new job. Better a devil you know than a devil you don’t? Time will tell.
If I had kids, then I would 100% switch. Each to their own, but there is a lot of research to show that being physically there for your children is beneficial to them long term, so I have every desire to be as present as I can be when they come around.
I’d choose that even without the kids
If I was not single then yes I would reduce travel but being single I love traveling
If you are OK with impact to your quality of life and spending by 30 K per year, then yes. The non financial benefit is your and your family’s well being. So it really depends on the severity or the non financial component. Ideal solution is to hang around until you find a job that gets you there but also has minimal impact on your financials. If that’s not an option, then you can take the first one that comes your way
No question I would. I don't even understand why a client would want to pay for the travel every week. Every one in aa while sure but it makes no sense to be on site that much.
Yes absolutely.
of course. do it for your family.
Absolutely Yes!
No. Kids require lots of $$$
I’m traveling every week - I turned down jobs that paid less. You do what you have to do.
Be sure to factor in your commute to office
Yes
