People can talk smack about the consulting industry all they want, but it let me hit my fire number in my 30s. #Blessed

Didn’t get promoted and thinking of leaving Deloitte for the next level at Guidehouse. It’s a title bump so I would get a raise, but I’m trying to weigh the opportunity cost of going to a “lower tier” firm known for more niche services. Has anyone else been in this situation and what did you choose? Would this limit my exit opps?
List of the worst of the worst people, those unfit for society: - Those who recline their seats on airplanes - Those who don’t return their grocery carts - Those who listen to audio on speaker on public transport Am I missing anyone?
Would you take a pay cut from $205K base to $180K base to go fully remote + can live wherever (from 2 days in office in NYC).
I was just terminated from the deals group. I’ve let myself go in terms of my health and weight. I figured I’d use a good chunk of the severance time to get in shape over the summer and focus on my health but my friends and family are pushing me to find a way to juggle both and call me crazy for taking my time. My plan is to build a morning routine of fitness and work that into my new schedule when I’m rehired. Any thoughts ?
Would you quit your 160k + traveling Sunday - Thursday job for another one that pays 130k but minimal travel? Traveling so much has been very hard on me / my family.
Ok I feel better opening the comments realizing no one else knows what this means either
What are these numbers and charts?
OP, how'd you manage to make that much money while still thinking 1871 data is relevant to future economic projections??
Congratulations! I am not young as you and not anywhere near these numbers. But I am happy in the place I am. I mostly see self deprecating comments of working in consulting and wonder why folks continue if they compare this line of work to being in the sewer; getting peanuts. I do feel the same stress and power politics but I think we are all adult enough to face it. Most of us forget we agreed to the employment for the salary we agreed upon.
LMAO EM1 “Stress and power” . And people wonder why cons are getting replaced by ChatGPT.
The problem with trust fund babies is that they cannot draw good charts or know anything about spending. And then they take on a job and want to convince themselves they are “self made” . I will be happy and “blessed” to inherit my grandma’s money. So it’s OK. Like it’s simple - what is exactly your role at McKinsey and what is your disposable cash you have that allows you to stop working at McKinsey at 30? What actions you took to get there ? Because unless you made partner at 25 or you want to live in a trailer , you have nothing close to this number FIRE= financial independence, retire early. So when are you retiring ? For others at McKinsey, wtf has happened to your hiring standards ? Like do they not understand the difference between net worth and stock market projections ?
What net worth are you at now?
At what age did you reach $24M? How many years at M and at what level?
That's very neat, congrats!
Projections not actual money 😆
Access to insider trading is powerful
Nice. I'm mid 30s and nowhere near your numbers. I still have done better than I expected for myself, though. I used to totally love consulting, for the challenges, for interesting work, for the money. I still love the first two, but no longer love the money. I haven't had a raise in 3 years, the whole company hasn't had it. And my friends who left to the industry make more. Consulting is not as prestigious pr desirable as it used to be, imho.
The point is that you could have hit that figure faster and have a 2-3x higher net worth if you had joined a similarly selective role in tech 10 years ago when you graduate
Hold up. What’s your current net worth, excluding property, how much are you drawing down per month, what are the average returns you’re expecting, and how many years do you expect to live?
Liquid net worth is the term you're looking for
Interesting
I thought I was smart, no idea what I’m looking at
