Interviews can be stressful; there’s so much going on in your head, everything has to be right on the day. Because so much thought goes into nailing the interview and making sure you’re the candidate who shines on the day smaller details can be missed. This checklist is to ensure general life mishaps won't get in the way of the best interview of your life so far.
Use the calendar
Sounds obvious, doesn’t it. However, you should use the calendar in a smart way.
Once you’ve accepted the interview, create a calendar entry, title it “Interview between your name and their name”.
Enter the time, location and then in description fill in the details of the job you're being interviewed for. Finally, enter the email address of the interviewer and send it to them, once they accept it, they have double committed themselves to the interview, once by themselves arranging it and second by you holding them to it. The more committed someone is to something the less likely postponements happen.
Wheelie case
Invest in a small wheelie travel case and have it ready to go. A wheelie case works better than a large heavy bag because they’re easy to pull about. You won't end up looking hot and sweaty, but that could be the look you adopt if you’re lugging a big heavy bag.
Make sure you always pack some trainers for days when you have to run for the train, bus or when you’ve had to park your car miles away from the company.
Always have an umbrella in your case, nothing worse than looking like you’ve jumped into swimming pool on the way to an interview.
Toothbrush and toothpicks are a must especially if the interview is after lunch.
Headache tablets, all that stress, can bring on a headache and you don’t want one during the interview.
Bottle of water, you will get thirsty as the adrenaline kicks in.
Charlie app
Download Charlie and get all the latest news on who’s interviewing you. This nifty app will check who you’re meeting, then go off and find information on that person, once done you receive and email with a summary of everything you need to know before the interview! Also, if you haven’t already, download Glassdoor to check those all important interview questions and company reviews.
Where to park
If you’re driving to the interview use Google maps the day before and search for parking. You will see instantly the blue bubbles sign posting car parks, make sure you know exactly where you'll park and how far from the interview destination it is.
Always make sure to give yourself a one-hour window, to allow for traffic, getting lost, accidents and hold-ups.
If you arrive early then just do some more prepping, you can never prep too much!
