Good things are happening for UK companies—and that means that even better things are coming for jobseekers in 2018. With a strong job market and an unemployment rate that’s dropped from 4.9 percent last year to 4.3 percent this year, companies are hiring in droves. (Even better, companies are paying more, too: average weekly earnings have grown by 2.5 percent this year alone.) So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get your CV in tip-top shape—then submit it to one of these companies that are going to make 2018 a great year.
When you’re looking for the best (deal on a) flight, you head to SkyScanner. But job seekers should also check out this travel search site. The business helped users book $11.2 billion in airline tickets in 2015, and with 60 million visitors each month this year, SkyScanner is only growing. It’s growing its workforce, too, in office around the world: the company is searching for a software engineer, advertising sales manager, and (almost) everything in between. You can look at all the available job openings at SkyScanner by clicking here.
Amnesty International, a non-profit that campaigns for worldwide human rights, is always up to something good. But in the current climate, it seems like the organization will have a lot of good to do in 2018, from helping war-torn Myanmar gain access to the U.N. to fighting for more (and better) security in Mexico. If you want to do some good—while getting paid to do it!—you can: Amnesty International is hiring for nearly 100 positions, including that of private site fundraiser, support growth coordinator, and many, many more.
Jimmy Choo has long been one of the hottest shoe and accessories brands in the world, and we don’t expect that to change in 2018. But the company is making some exciting changes in the new year, which makes it—in our humble opinions—a very cool place to work next year. One of those moves is the company’s new commitment to go fur-free from now on. So if you’d like to join this (fur-free) company in 2018, take a look at its current job openings. Jimmy Choo is hiring for several jobs, including an assistant manager and stock controller.
Shazam is already one of the most popular mobile apps used for finding music. But in 2018, the app is getting even better: it’s released new (and needed) updates to its iOS system, and will roll out a Next to Know platform that will attempt to predict the hottest new artists for its users. If you want to work here, Shazam is hiring in London. The company is looking for engineers—including a site reliability engineer and data engineer—and payroll assistant.
Insurance agencies often get a bad rap. (If you’ve ever had to file a health insurance claim, you’ll understand why.) That’s why we were so pleased to see an announcement this month that Aviva accepted a whopping 96 percent of its claims in 2016, which is the most recent year for which data is available. The London-based company is also hiring for more than 1,000 jobs—which makes applying to it in 2018 a very good idea. The company is looking for everything from a test engineer to a project manager and a business analyst. But for a complete list of job openings, click here.
Earlier this year, TripAdvisor released a new feature that allowed users to search for—and order—takeout while travelling. Who knows what the travel platform will be up to in 2018, but we have a hunch it’ll be something as good as fresh food delivered to your doorstep. If you’d like to work for TripAdvisor in the new year, there’s more good news: the company is searching for positions around the world, including a sales manager and analyst in London.
Unilever is changing a few things for 2018. First, say goodbye to spreads. Next, say hello to natural shampoos and conditioners. The massive company—which has big brands such as Dove and Lipton—will need lots of awesome staff to usher in these changes. Case in point: Unilever is hiring for a whopping 700-plus positions, including a global health and beauty capability manager and innovation project planner. You can see a full list of open jobs here.
Diageo turned 20 years old in 2017. How will the company—which owns brands such as Johnnie Walker whiskey and Smirnoff vodka—celebrate its 21st birthday next year? We can only hope it’s with as much fanfare as your average 21-year-old in the U.S., where many of its products are sold. You could find out as a company insider, working as a head of digital commerce or a beer brand ambassador. Check out all of Diageo’s job openings here.
Cruise company Carnival has a strong 2017: its stock got a boost, and its financial outlook for 2018 is very positive, according to reports. (The CEO has said that he’s committed to continuing to grow revenue next year.) In other words, it’s our hope that Carnival will also spread the wealth to its employees—and you can become one by applying for a job here.
Dyson broke ground this year on its new engineering institute, where scholars can (one day) earn a four-year engineering degree. So, if you’ve ever wanted to work for Dyson, the time to apply to the company is now—before those brilliant new grads come for its jobs. Right now, the company is hiring for nearly 400 jobs, including a senior engineer, digital marketing executive, and retail customer advisor. Check out all the open roles here.
Clarks is kicking off the new year in a big way: working with a supply chain provider, Clarks plans to transform its retail planning and order fulfillment processes. And if you want to be a part of the transformation, you’re in for a treat: Clarks is hiring more than 600 people as of this publication—think: an area sales manager, service analyst, and regional line manager. If none of those jobs are calling to you, you can see all available openings here.
