I was privileged to be part of day 2 of this conference and hear from so many insightful and engaging speakers. Marie Boland's opening address was a highlight and a reminder that a safe and healthy workplace is a fundamental human right. In the spirit of the conference theme, "collaboration for prevention", I shared insights on the wellbeing of Australian workers that we have collected over the past 7 years. Population mental health has been declining for over a decade, in particular for younger generations. This is a wicked problem that relies on collaboration and collective action. Our data shows: · Stigma is still alive and well - and something we need to actively address · Younger generations are more likely to seek help for mental health concerns and engage in mental health education · Equipping frontline leaders to have wellbeing conversations with team members is a top priority Reach out if you’d like to hear more. Do you know what to look for when someone isn’t ok? For this year’s hashtag#RUOK? Day, APM WorkCare Senior Counsellor, Ben Humphreys, looks at how to know when someone we care about isn’t feeling ok. In this short clip Ben takes us through some common signs that someone might be experiencing low mental health, and what we can do to start the conversation. Thanks to Ben and the APM WorkCare team for sharing these valuable insights. #RUOKDay2024 #RUOKAnyDay #MentalHealth #Wellbeing
Feeling sluggish? The human brain uses 20% of our daily energy intake. As the highest energy-consuming organ in our body, the connection between food and mood is clear. Our diet impacts not only our physical health but also our mental wellbeing. Poor nutrition can lead to tiredness, poor concentration, and a reduced immune system, while healthy eating can boost mood and energy levels. Healthy eating is definitely a win for individuals as well as your workforce! However, not everyone has control over their dietary habits. A lack of time or the rising cost of groceries can easily lead to someone reaching for convenient comfort food over a more nourishing choice. Luckily, as a leader, there are many ways you can support your team and make healthy choices easier: 1️⃣ Model healthy habits: Don’t skip meals or eat at your desk. 2️⃣ Offer healthy options: Offer fresh fruit and healthier snacks in the office. 3️⃣ Celebrate wisely: Opt for less processed foods during team events.
