Leadership Leaving in Droves

Pros

You can connect with contractors who might offer better opportunities.

Cons

Leadership has been steadily leaving because the company is way behind on technology. They sloppily ramped up AI marketing after doing multiple rounds of layoffs, and their AI content is dated and unfinished. Worse, they laid off several experts in the AI/ML field.

Pros

Bonuses if you can hit goal which is hard. Unlimited PTO but you will not hit goal if you take off and have a lot of work to come back to even after one day.

Cons

This role was unbelievably draining and you are not valued here. There are major layoffs every six months

Pros

Getting to work alongside talented people who care about its mission of placing people into tech jobs. 100% remote and autonomy in how you can create your schedule.

Cons

Lack of transparency from leadership about its business decisions. Layoffs were commonplace during my time there - no stability.

Pros

- Remote work: General Assembly has a team of 500+ global employees. Flexible working options - Impact: If you care deeply about making a difference the mission will keep you going. - Culture: You're going to work with some of the most passionate, authentic, and fun people to date. The spirit of the org is that of a young, scrappy startup with human beings ready to make a difference.

Cons

- Limited Career Growth/Financial Outlook is Bleak: The organization has engaged in multiple rounds of layoffs impacting the global delivery team. The organization's focus is all about "Getting towards profitability" which can feel unstable at times. The future financial outlook doesn't look super promising, however, the new CEO Daniele and the team is doing their best to rightsize years worth of gaps of profitability. The business isn't profitable under the bootcamp model. Due to financial challenges is unable to offer promotions, pay increases, and incentives for employees. This has resulted in hiring freezes and 2+ rounds of layoffs. No roles are being backfilled which can make for a stressful time for coaches to deliver high quality coaching with limited resources. It can be done, however, at the expense of overworking and burnout. -Career Coach Role "Flattens" in 6-8 months: While there are opportunities to expand your growth in special projects, Employee Resource Groups, and cross collaboration with other departments, the scope of the Career Coach role doesn't change in scope: you teach 1-2 classes per quarter, teach 6-8 weeks post course curriculum, and coach 1:1. GA shifted to a vertical model where coaches specialize in certain tracks like Data Scient - : Caseloads range from 50-100+ job seekers at once with no backfilling roles due to being strapped for cash. The coaches also are on coach caseloads longer given the market, upwards of 300-400+ days. It can be challenging to coach to scale with multiple needs while also teaching classes.
