Not everyone springs out of bed when the alarm goes off at 7 am, for some people mornings are the worst time of the day. Night owls are called that for a good reason; they are the ones that like to potter about at midnight, some have their most productive hours after midnight. A traditional 9-5 job isn’t right for everyone, that type of routine could make some night owls miserable, less productive, accident prone, for some they could feel like a square peg being forced into a round hole. What’s even worse for a night owl is having happy “early bird catches the worm” type of people around them, saying the wrong things like “ Looks like you got out of bed on the wrong side this morning”. If you’re still giving people an evil look at 11 am and freaking out when someone smiles then you might have to face facts, mornings aren’t for you. What can you do about it though? The good news for night owls is that many companies are starting to realise that not everyone is productive at the same time, many are happy to be flexible with their employees. Before you make any hasty decisions, it would be good to have a chat with your employer to see if they can offer some flexibility in the times. Some employers are happy to offer remote working; this might be something that could benefit everyone. If your employer is stuck in their ways and has never heard of anything so absurd when you ask to start work an hour later, then it could mean a change is on the cards. Here are a few jobs to consider if you hate mornings:   Healthcare   Nurses, midwives, paramedics, care workers, veterinary assistants, support staff and more. Healthcare workers are very much needed during the dark hours when most of us are tucked up in bed. So, if you’ve ever fancied being a superhero without all the leaping about on buildings, then the healthcare profession could be the answer. Security Security guards keep the peace in pubs and clubs, they guard peoples residential and commercial properties, as well as guarding people. Security is required all around the clock making it a great job for those who don’t like mornings. Hospitality A hotel is open 24hours; a restaurant can have its busiest times after 6 pm, cocktail shakers come alive from 10 pm. There are many jobs in hospitality to make sure you’d never have to work another morning again. Desk receptionists, bartenders, chefs, waiters, hosts, kitchen porters, concierge, managers and more, there’s a job to suit most people. Airport As long as you’re not the type of person who gets envious of holiday makers, then a job at an airport could be perfect. There’s a variation of job roles at every airport; good staff keep the busiest of airports open around the clock.  Retails assistants are needed for all of those duty-free shops, as well as car hire representatives, cleaners, bus drivers, customer service advisors, traffic controllers, catering assistants and customs and excise officers. If being in the air sounds exciting then enquire about cabin crew jobs. Entertainment Entertaining people isn’t usually a morning job unless you’re a breakfast presenter for radio or television. As well as radio and television there are the holiday camps, hotels, theatres, cinemas and even cruise liners. All of these places need people to enable the entertainment to be good. Audio and visual technicians, also engineers are required. Dj’s, ticket sellers, dancers, hosts, cooks, runners, camera crew, photographers, social media managers are just some of the jobs required to make the wonderful world of entertainment a success. Turn off that alarm, go back to sleep because the world of work for a night owl doesn’t start at 7 am.
