Are you tired of hearing about Brexit? Concerned about your future? Looking to leave the UK? Certainly you wouldn't be alone. Millions of Britons live abroad, whether in the EU or elsewhere in the world.
So if you are looking to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before you, we at Glassdoor have your back. Here are just a few of the countries willing and ready to accept you and your CVs with open arms:
1. Australia
Whilst Australia may have originally been founded as a penal colony, these days the country has all the advantages a UK expat could hope for. Australia is an English-speaking country that benefits from some glorious sunshine. In fact, at the time of writing, the weather was peaking at around 30 degrees, a far sight warmer than our cold and grey winter. Not only that, but Australia also benefits from high wages, a strong healthcare system as well as the opportunity to visit all of the fantastic tourist sites Oz has to offer. 2. United Arab Emirates
Another strong option, the United Arab Emirates have proven rather popular with expats over the years. Although English is not an official language, it is widely spoken throughout the country, and you could easily gain employment and a solid social circle without having to learn an additional language. One large draw for many people is that expats are taxed far less than they would be in other countries, making it a rather sound financial decision. 3. Spain
Joining with a long heritage of UK expats to Spain, around 310,000 Brits live in Spain full-time. This means that there are a number of amenities focused on the English language market that can make a move more seamless (although learning Spanish in addition would certainly be beneficial!). Not only that, but Spain is looking to welcome those Brits fleeing Brexit, with offers, including significant long-term tax breaks for bankers, alongside a law to support entrepreneurs and their internalization, which offers you a long-term visa if you are willing to invest in the Spanish economy. Certainly, it could well be a viable option for those highly skilled and well-trained individuals. If you would like to join the strong British population in Spain, read on here.
4. The Netherlands
With most people in the Netherlands speaking English as well as dominating the business and academic community, you may well feel as if you never left England. This is coupled with an extremely similar climate, whilst the country has less crime and spends more on healthcare than other countries in Europe. It should also be easier to relocate to the Netherlands than other countries, particularly if you manage to piggyback on some of the large tech companies located here who are looking to hire expats. If you're thinking about making the move, here is some further information to aid you in making a decision.
5. Thailand
For the more adventurous amongst you, Thailand could well prove to be an exciting option. With some absolutely beautiful islands and areas all within a stone's throw, and an exceptionally cheap cost of living, it has attracted plenty of Brits over the years who are looking for a more laid-back way of life alongside a relatively good healthcare system. Of course, you may well struggle without speaking any Thai in some of the more remote areas, but that might make it all the more exciting! If you think you are up for the challenge, here are the key points you need to know.
