Pros

Meeting new people (customer), Making new friendships

Cons

Unrealistic sales targets, Staff that lie/manipulate customers to achieve sales targets, managers won't do anything to nip in UNLESS it ultimately affects them. Management manipulate/gaslight staff out of career opportunities. 1 line item sales will get you reemed by management and thus begins your 21 questions about why/how/what/where/when. Multi line item sales will still get you questioned about if you asked every open ended question possible and why they didn't sign with Telstra. Management will agree to gut your comms from a sale to GET the sale and won't reimburse you for doing the hard work. DigiDirect selling a camera $600 cheaper than JB, but JB have a $50 SPIV? Management won't pay the SPIV and tell you to not let the sale walk. Literally nothing you can do about it. Management not 5 mins before clocking in will speak to you about another staff performing better and asking you to even better than them. JB now wants all staff regardless of when you started to do counter transactions, floor sales, storeroom duties, merchandising, accessories & security at the door without any additional pay outside of comms from sales and retail achievers which is $1 per hour worked weekly. There's way more.

Poor Managemment

Pros

Casual Vibe, means to an end.

Cons

Upper Management is atrocious. Training is poor, product knowledge and investment in staff is woeful. If you have a good manager, you may enjoy the job temporarily-as a way to move onto better things, but do not stay there. The things I have witnessed with wolf-pack type mentality, ridiculous expectations, ongoing pressure to work hours beyond required, with threat of job is disgusting. But some of the managers will do anything to suck up to upper management and this will not be admitted. The ongoingpressure on sales staff, which brought some to tears in my time is disgusting. A business is there to create money in part., yes. But these guys care for only that. Building a constructive, enjoyable and stable workplace is not on there agenda it seems.

Cost-cutting Hurts Good Staff

Pros

Good people to work with in stores, great staff discount, company charity-giving is encouraging, great atmosphere with the right managers

Cons

Hours cut more every day, putting far too much stress and workload on staff, some managers are downright incompetent, rampant bullying in some stores that gets swept under the rug, little compensation or recognition for non-sales staff (who work the hardest), sexist hiring, head office are completely out of touch with everything
