Pros
Working at iCare can be a positive experience similar to many other NSW Government organisations. Most of the people are great to work with. The work-life balance can be good overall, although it varied between teams. There were also elements of flexibility in terms of work arrangements, depending upon management.
Cons
My primary challenge revolved around the management style within the data management team. From day one, expectations were high without the provision of adequate training. The manager often demonstrated an extremely controlling approach and tended to micromanage a lot. The workload often felt unrealistic, with a constant focus on completing tasks in a mechanical fashion. Unfortunately, this left little to no room for mentorship, professional growth, or career progression. The lack of a clear professional path was also a downside. I found the team environment in general toxic. My advice: iCare is a great company with a lot to offer. However, if you are considering a position within the data management team, ensure you are comfortable with the management style described above. Explore other teams as well, as experiences vary within the organization.
