Pros
Lots of work available if you're looking. Good stores and nice locations. Great place to work if you're just a team member. Long standing Store managers are lovely and have been a pleasure to work with. I had a lot of support from my fellow managers and have made some wonderful friends as well!
Cons
TLDR: Steer clear of EG. Its pretty good as a console operator but management is a NIGHTMARE. Ive FINALLY exited EG after 5years. BIGGEST mistake I made was accepting a management role. They're extremely desperate for people, treat them terribly, pay almost nothing and then wonder why the retention rate is so low and they cant keep people engaged. Company is an entire mess, Getting anything done is like pulling teeth and more often than not you'll have to fix any issues yourself. You consistently feel like you're bailing out a sinking ship with EG. They expect the absolute world from managers on a bottom dollar budget. Here is a comprehensive list of my main gripes: - BM's constantly change the rules and misquote policies that you then have to go look up and double check. They'll cite something as "company expectations" when its not in a policy anywhere. -NO Managers have a contract, everyone has a "letter of offer" which makes reference to a contract that just does not exist. -No department talks to each other or LISTENS to managers. AKA taking WEEKS to get important works done or broken things fixed you have to CHASE them up every couple of days. -Managers have little to no control over individual stores but are held to account for things completely out of their control. -LOTS and LOTS of outdated and broken systems, which you just cant get any support or help for if, god forbid, they break. - Expected to run sites entirely on your own back. (I ran a T1 24HR site, I kept it open 24hrs for the entire 5yrs I was there, we never shut, at my own expense. Worked so many 16hr shifts over five years Ive lost count. Ive even done a few 20hr stints in my time. Ive closed at midnight then opened 4hrs later, done 13-17 days in a row with no help). and of course: no work life balance. You're expected to be "on call" 24hrs a day. - DISMAL PAY!! when I made manager I was only JUST earning what I did working 4 shifts per week as a team member. I took a pay cut to be an ASSISTANT MANAGER!! Its the worst pay to responsibility curve in a job I have ever seen. I ended up being on 150$ for an 8hr day and then even LESS if I did "expected unpaid overtime" which ends up being a daily thing because you just have so much to do. I really, really should have walked out sooner than I did. This was my first dip into a management roll and I can very confidently say it has set me up for an easy time, since no company will be as bad as EG. When I told them I was leaving they didn't even ASK what my new company was offering, let alone attempt to keep me on. I love working in fuel, Ive always worked in fuel and it was a great place to be when you didn't have to deal with the company. EG just demands so much and you're constantly put in a position of being "not" good enough. If your told your "not good enough" constantly you just end up being that way, EG takes good people, chews them up and spits them out.
