Pros

Nice coworkers and salary is decent

Cons

This is falsely advertised as a 'market research' role, when in fact the role consists primarily of cold calling brokers who want nothing to do with you and asking them nonsensical questions. CoStar's entire business strategy is annoying these brokers into providing information and then selling the same information back to them. I mean, if it works it works? This role comes with the insane micromanagement typical of all call centres. I was less supervised as a high schooler than I was in this role. Prepare to have all of your stats shared to the teams chat, where if you're unlucky enough to not have any of your calls answered, your name will be highlighted in bright red for the entire office to see. I would work at this company only if I had zero professional experience and needed the money and something to put on my CV. Anyone else is automatically insanely overqualified for the role. It's quite dystopian to see an office of intelligent people, some of them having Masters and +10 years in the industry, making cold calls for the purpose of meeting useless metrics.

Pros

Benefits and the opportunity to work at home during the pandemic

Cons

A company ran by narcissists. Cult like culture where the only thing that matters is the work. You don't exist if you don't work at the corporate office in DC. Totally inconsistent, full of knee jerk reactions. You can't have a real estate license but half of the employees have licenses. You need a bachelors degree to get hired but will hire referrals without degrees. You will get burned out and laid off once they figure out a way to eliminate your position. Your stress level would depend on the division you work for. No room for advancement. Average length of time to work here is 3-5 years, 1-2 if you work in technology or lower level positions. Micromanaging toxic work environment. Get to hear how the CEO gets richer every quarter! HR is a joke!

CoStar Group Response
5y
We wanted to confirm that we have received this feedback and value both current and former employees sharing their opinions with us. We're always happy to hear when employees note our generous benefit offerings as a positive for working at CoStar Group. The rest of your review contains some opinions that are not factually correct or rooted in reality. As an obvious example, we care about and support all of our employees, not just those based out of one particular office. In fact, the DC office makes up less than 13 percent of our entire global employee population. To infer that the contributions of only 13 percent of our employees matter to the company, and that 87 percent of our employees don't exist, completely delegitimizes the tremendous contributions and impact all of our employees make at CoStar Group. Additionally, to say that there is no room for advancement is not only inaccurate, it takes away from the accomplishments of those employees who have advanced in the company. In 2020 alone, nearly a quarter (24 percent) of our total hires were from internal candidates. While we understand the desire for people to take to websites like these to air their grievances and make generalizations, please consider how these comments may take away from the incredible achievements of the people that make up CoStar Group. We wish you the best in achieving your future career goals.

Pros

Good salary and met nice people

Cons

Micromanagement is looked at under a microscope. An old-fashioned way of doing the job, not allowing room for modern methods to be taken into consideration in metrics. Very rigid KPI structure. Not having a voice at all in improving methods - often felt with bigger companies, but have not been able to speak your mind as management would just brush it off and feel like 'that's a you problem' more often than not.
