Pros

I made some great friends that made the toxic environment bearable

Cons

Where do I even start? At first they make everything seem like peaches and cream, but it does not last long before realizing how toxic And unhealthy the work environment really is. Higher ups are degrading and narcissistic. They expect everyone to be perfect while they meet lower standards and if you do not agree with their every move you will be put on the chopping block. They manage through scare tactics and gossip about other employees, so unprofessional. The CEO will have you put months of hard work into a project that she suggested just to back out last minute making you clean up the mess. HR has absolutely no idea what they are doing and makes the most inappropriate remarks that would not fly anywhere else. They try to cover up the mess with “work perks”. They claim to be flexible but will not let you leave an hour early for a doctors appointment without making you use your time off. At company meeting they have employees who were recently hired stand up to show company growth when in reality it signifies their high turnover rate. I would rather take a significant pay cut than deal with this unhealthy environment. You shouldn’t have to deal with this type of abuse day in and day out or have to go home with constant fear and anxiety of losing your job. Hoping the new investors will see the pattern and get more involved in trying to bring positive change.

Pros

Unfortunately, it may be too little, too late

Cons

The company continues to quickly go downhill. The inexperienced CEO doesn't understand the basics of running the business. As talented people quickly come and go, the company is left with the people who are not fit to complete their duties. This is a prime example of a "Mom and Pop" trying to make it big and failing.

Disappointed and Disenchanted

Pros

They have started to change their benefits (ie. they no longer will force you to take vacation time during a specific time of year) but it's too late to boost any moral that is left.

Cons

When I was hired at Brahmin I was very excited. The product is beautiful, and I thought at the time, the opportunity for growth seemed promising. Almost immediately, though, you can sense an undercurrent of negativity mostly in response to behavior from the top. The CEO is one of the most insecure and unprofessional people I have encountered in my career (and I have worked in the fashion industry for 15+ years, so that’s saying a lot!). She has nurtured a "mean girl" culture by bullying her employees, pitting departments against each other and creating jealousy within departments by talking behind people’s back and undermining the team mentality. Witnessing her demean and ridicule employees behind their backs or publicly shame them is an almost daily occurrence. She creates a toxic work environment with little autonomy and employees afraid to express themselves for fear of humiliation. It not only stifles creativity but now I understand why after decades of being in business, and with such a great quality product, the brand hasn't reached it's full potential. It's shocking that during this time of awareness and enlightenment there are still female leaders who abuse their power. Choosing not to lead by positive example but instead lift themselves up by tearing others down. Unless you want to feel insulted, unappreciated and dismissed, my advice is to look elsewhere before applying for a job here.
