Interview
I interviewed for a Data Scientist role and wanted to share my experience for future candidates.
The process included an initial recruiter interview, a meeting with a data scientist, a take home assignment, a director level interview, and two VP interviews. Overall, it was a lengthy process.
My primary concern was the lack of coordination in scheduling. I was at one point given an interview with very little notice and without being asked about my availability beforehand, and one scheduled meeting was missed. For a process with this many stages, I expected a more organized experience.
The take home assignment was also a significant undertaking. It took me approximately 40 hours to complete and was unpaid. In my view, that is a substantial ask for an interview process, and the scope felt closer to project work than a standard assessment.
I also recall the compensation for the role being lower than I would expect given the seniority of the interview panel and the amount of candidate time required.
The people I met were courteous, but the overall process felt poorly balanced in terms of organization, workload, and compensation. Future candidates may want to clarify expectations around scheduling, take home scope, and timeline before committing.
