I am working for a tech startup in Sydney. I make around 180k plus super. I am trying to break in to 200-220k mark , ideally by stepping into a Lead or staff role. But a bit reluctant as I need to make my self available for family commitments. School runs , other child related activities etc I find that most companies these days are forcing the in office mandate. Curious how other professionals manage this. I’ve seen pretty good opportunities come up, specially with x15 at CBA and macquirie

I think you’re right to be cautious as typically the higher you go in an organisation the bigger the expectations especially to be available. Do you have good support around you? Could they pick up from you if you’re caught up at work?I would carefully consider your circumstances, what’s important to you and what you can realistically make work. Good luck
Not much support around family commitments unfortunately. My wife is trying to go into a hybrid role aswell. Hoping this would unlock a bit more flexibility
It takes a village to have a career and kids in Sydney. Strategies like leaning on family to do pick ups, a tutor for homework, other parents to help with after school sport. Have a plan each day of the week if kids get sick - will you or parent 2 work from home? or what days would family step in. For school holidays book activities with their friends, send them to grandparents or cousins. It’s a load, look after yourself amongst all of that - exercise, get plenty of sleep, eat well and stay connected with colleagues & be present in the business to protect your career.
