Experience is one thing along with knowledge is key, but over the past 5 years plus it seems companies want a one man show. (Especially small to medium ones). I know my limitations and skill set but that doesn’t mean I want to cram my head being a network engineer, server infrastructure engineer, email engineer, cloud engineer, etc. I understand how they all intertwine, but that’s too much for me as companies want it all and their pay scale isn’t anywhere it needs to be.
What am I doing wrong? I'm a professional with over eight years of experience, and I've never been unemployed for more than 15 days in all that time; there's always been a project or company interested in my services. But now, simply finding a job is becoming incredibly difficult. I'm a software engineer, but for the past few years, I've worked as a Tech Lead or Engineering Manager, and I've even founded my own startup. What's the secret sauce to landing a good tech job these days?
No one talks about the depression that comes with being a tech creative with so much to offer, so much intelligence and skillset, and still yet cannot find the right platform or establishment that will believe in you enough to employ you to grow with the firm and be the best you can be. You see a lot of people get by with far less. Its disheartening! The few times people or firms reach out to you, they only want to use you for something or tap your intelligence for a minute. Its never enough!
Four rounds of interviews over two weeks with nothing but excellent post-interview feedback and got rejected out of nowhere with no actual feedback. This is the farthest I've gotten in 6 months of looking to get out of my current dead end only to be shot down just because reasons after being told everything went great. What a kick in the junk.
That’s why I prefer bigger companies. Small companies really expect you to do it all, bigger companies tend to pigeon hole. Opposite problem but at least there’s no scope creep
