Much of the interview was focused on what my process looked like in my previous work experience and key achievements. I enjoyed the mock call portion of the call because I was given constructive criticism on what I could do better in addition to what I did well.
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab
Interview
very inclusive interviews, friendly people throughout the whole process. Many steps to ensure candidates get screened by different people. They try to fairly measure experience, knowledge and motivation and care a lot about aligning with their company values! Overall challenging but great interviewing experience!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab
Interview
The recruiter and the hiring manager for this position were a joy. I ended up trying to convince 3 hiring managers that I could be on their team. After the first hiring manager interview they told me that position went to someone internal. Then the second hiring manager passed up on me. After that, I was passed to another hiring manager that passed up on me. It felt playground tactics. I felt very undervalued by the end of it. The tone of their questions made me feel that they were not comfortable working alongside a black person. I got a rejection letter that said I did not clearly describe the how in my SDR process. I was so confused. After 5 interviews and an assignment? They simply didn’t know how to manage a highly accomplished black person. We are used to it. Hopefully Gitlab will address their systemic racism.
